The illegal importation of wildlife often leads to animal cruelty issues due to the efforts made by smugglers to avoid detection of the animals during the importation process. No other subspecies of Boa constrictor is included on the Live Import List making their importation into Australia illegal. Only the Boa constrictor occidentalis subspecies is listed as suitable for import in recognition of its CITES Appendix 1 threatened species status, allowing it to be imported for conservation purposes by zoos as part of a species management program. In order to be eligible for import into Australia, a species must be included on the Commonwealth Government’s live Import List, maintained by the Commonwealth Department of Environment. These restrictions have been established as a safeguard to protect Australia against exotic pests and diseases that are considered a threat to the Australian environment, economy and the wider community and to protect endangered species from uncontrolled trade which can lead to population decline and extinction of endangered species. ![]() There are restrictions on the animals that can be imported into Australia. In Australia the importation of live animals is controlled by the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act), and the Biosecurity Act 2015 (Cth). Boa constrictors reach sexual maturity around 3 to 4 years of age and can live up to 30 years. Breedingīoa constrictors are prolific breeders and give birth to numerous live young, with litter size averaging 25 and reaching up to 60. It may impact on agricultural activities and it is known to threaten species of amphibians, birds, lizards, snakes and bats.īoa constrictors can carry viruses such as Inclusion Body Disease and Ophidian Paramyxovirus, which are fatal to native Australian snakes as they have no resistance to the diseases. The Boa constrictor can represent a threat to humans, particularly small children, as well as domestic pets. Boa constrictors feed on a wide variety of vertebrates including small mammals, birds and their eggs, small lizards and occasionally amphibians with larger sized Boa constrictors able to feed on larger animals. The Boa constrictor’s jaws are lined with small, hooked teeth which are used for grabbing and holding prey while it is wrapped around and suffocated by the snake. The Bomford Risk Assessment Model classifies the Boa constrictor as a ‘Serious’ establishment risk for Australia.īoa constrictors have been bred and actively distributed by the pet industry with the species now kept both legally and illegally in captivity around the world. ![]() The Bomford Risk Assessment Model 1 provides a model of the risk to Australia of non-indigenous animals based on data collected for introduced species in Britain and the United States of America using parameters including taxonomy, climate matching, geographic range, and success of establishment elsewhere. Impactīoa constrictors have a proven record of success as an invasive species having successfully established non-native pest populations in locations such as Dade County, Florida in the USA and Cozumel Island, Mexico. However, in addition to the browns and creams seen in Boa constrictor colouration, carpet pythons typically have an olive green colouration. Native carpet pythons reach similar sizes to Boa constrictors and also have blotches, stripes or cross bands. The coloured patterns aid in camouflaging the snake under natural conditions, allowing the species to evade detection and assist it to hide from and ambush its prey. The Boa constrictor generally displays distinctive patterns on the body, of jagged lines, ovals, diamonds and circles, with typical markings often described as “saddles”. Colouration of the Boa constrictor species ranges widely with tan, green, red and yellow colouration combinations. The Boa constrictor is non-venomous and has an arrow-shaped head. The Boa constrictor is considered to be one of the world’s largest snake species with an average length of around 3m. ![]() The Boa constrictor ( Boa constrictor) originates from Central and South America, including northern Mexico and north-western Argentina, where a total of 10 subspecies of the Boa constrictor occur.

![]() Robinson-Earl earned Big East Player of the Year honors last season, and he's now gone. They'll need some role players to step up, with Brandon Slater generating some positive preseason buzz. Gillespie should be one of the best point guards in the country and Samuels took a big step forward last season. Jay Wright tends to do his best with guys that have been in his program for multiple years, and he's bringing back an older group with four returning starters from last season. But a 6-foot-8 player with Robinson-Earl's skill set will be difficult to replace.īorzello: In an historical context, it might sound overly ambitious to win three national championships in seven seasons, but it's equally as ambitious to win two national titles in three seasons - so no, I don't think putting the Wildcats in the Monday night discussion is too aggressive. ![]() In the NCAA tournament, without Gillespie available, Villanova committed turnovers on 14% of possessions when Robinson-Earl was on the court. Villanova made 54% of its shots inside the arc with Robinson-Earl on the floor last season and also held opponents to 95 points per 100 possessions, per, when he played. But Robinson-Earl had a significant impact on the players around him. The next group always finds a way to fill the voids. At Villanova, Jay Wright lives by the "next man up" principle. My concern is the loss of Jeremiah Robinson-Earl. Now, Villanova returns Gillespie and Jermaine Samuels and the supporting cast to back the forecasts that project Villanova as a Final Four team. Who knows what might have happened in both years, but they had a shot. The Wildcats were 6-1 in their last seven games of the lost 2019-2020 campaign, too. But Villanova was still a second-weekend squad. Those injuries tend to derail most programs. Each of them was special in its own way and I couldn’t pick a favourite. It would be impossible to list the restaurants that we visited in any other order than chronologically. It seems that more tourists stay in their yachts and sailboats than on the island itself. Today this results in a lack of developed accommodation options. Until the early nineties, Vis island was an important military base and thus closed for visitors. Restaurants are geared towards yachting tourists which means everything but cheap. But I preferred it to the white “bugava”, another local variety. Red and strong, it may not be the best choice for hot summer days. “Plavac” is the most famous local wine.Anchovies are another popular ingredient. Everything is put into a pot, covered with cast iron lid and slowly cooked under the embers of a fireplace. It is a dish consisting of meat, fish or octopus with potatoes and vegetables. “Peka” is an absolute must-try, there is no way around it.No need to worry about carbon footprint there. The menu will probably be limited but the ingredients will be homegrown. ![]() “Agriturizam” is another good bet, meaning a farm open to tourists. The name stands for a traditional restaurant, usually a rustic place with a huge open fireplace called “gradele” where most of the food is prepared. This is a true hotspot for food lovers that completely took me by surprise. The abundance of eateries with locally sourced, organically grown food and freshly caught fish is such that the question is not “where to eat on Vis island” but where to eat first. Besides, judging by the quality of food at this limited selection of restaurants, there must be at least a dozen other equally satisfying places to try. Simply because the number of restaurants you can visit during a one-week stay hardly qualifies as extensive research. Calling this post “the list of the best restaurants on Vis island” would be a bit pretentious. Ĭost-effectiveness: Because the CD jewel case is the standard, most-commonly used CD case, it is much cheaper. These may be used to display album artwork, lyrics, photos, thank-yous, messages, biography, etc. Room for accessories: The CD jewel case is designed to carry a booklet, as well as to have panel inserts. Since the CD jewel case has existed for decades, there are many CD shelves, racks, and other products in the market that are made for CD jewel cases. ![]() The CD jewel case may also be preferred because it offers orderliness on a shelf. The same is not as true with other cases, since paper can stick to the CDs due to air, humidity, and other factors. Storage: The type of material of the CD jewel case allows storage of CDs for decades without ruining the CDs. If the case is made of thin cardboard, there is a greater chance that the CD would break or get damaged because the weight is directed onto it. When pressure is applied to the CD jewel case, the case will break first before the CD. Also, since the jewel case is made of plastic, it is sturdier compared to cardboard, paper, or foams. Flimsier cases may cause the CD to become loose, or even fall out. Because of this, even if the CD jewel case is turned upside-down, left, or right, the CD is held in place. Another publication quotes Doodson describing that he "specified polished ribs as they pick up the light and shine" and states that the resulting appearance led to the name.Įndurance: The CD jewel case has a tight and firm grip of the CD because of the tray's "teeth" or "lock". When the new design, by Peter Doodson, was found to be "virtually perfect" it was dubbed the "jewel case". According to one publication, initial attempts at packaging CDs were unsatisfactory. Blank Blu-ray Disc media is also most commonly sold in standard-width jewel cases.Īccording to Philips, the name "jewel case" reflects either the generally high quality of the case design compared to initial attempts, or its appearance. Jewel cases are occasionally used for DVDs, but generally not for those that contain major film releases. The jewel case is the standard case used by the majority of manufacturers and it is the most common type of case found in record and movie stores. This is achieved by a central circular hub of spring-loaded teeth that grip and effectively suspend the disc above the tray surface, preventing the recording surface from being scratched. ![]() The rear media tray snaps into the back cover and is responsible for securing the CD. The ends usually have the name of the release and the artist, and often label or catalogue information printed on them, and are designed to be visible when the case is stored vertically, 'book-style', on shelves. The back card is folded into a flattened "U" shape, with the sides being visible along the ends (often referred to as the spine) of the case. In addition, there is usually a back card, 150 by 118 millimetres (5.9 in × 4.6 in), underneath the media tray and visible through the clear back, often listing the track names, studio, copyright data and other information. The liner notes typically will be a 120 by 120 millimetres (4.7 in × 4.7 in) booklet, or a single 242 by 120 millimetres (9.5 in × 4.7 in) leaf folded in half. The front lid contains two, four, or six tabs to keep any liner notes in place. Īround 1993 there was a general shift to the rear jewel case being made of clear plastic instead of black or coloured. All three parts are made of injection-moulded polystyrene. Two opposing transparent halves are hinged together to form the casing, the back half holding a media tray that grips the disc by its hole. ![]() It is a three-piece plastic case, measuring 142 by 125 by 10 millimetres (5.59 in × 4.92 in × 0.39 in), a volume of 177.5 cubic centimetres (10.83 cu in), which usually contains a compact disc along with the liner notes and a back card.
